Diabetic Foot Care

Finding a podiatrist with a special focus in diabetic foot issues can help lower the risk of complications and the need for severe intervention.  If you are aware that you have diabetes and are experiencing numbness, bruising, ulcers or severe swelling, it is important that you consult a podiatrist with experience treating diabetic foot problems immediately.

At Northstate we utilize a series of tests to determine the severity of issues, whether circulation, ulcers or neuropathy are present and then we create a program to help each patient’s condition.  In many cases we aim to reduce the progression your condition with conservative treatments.  However, when a condition such as Charcot foot or severe infections have occurred, our team is among the most qualified in providing surgical intervention to help avoid the need for severe interventions such as amputation.

If you are experiencing open sores or ulcers, such as those that are common with diabetes, a podiatrist should be consulted to provide diabetic wound care treatment.  These treatments necessitate the fastest and most effective responses in order to lower risks of more serious complications.  Open foot sores are not only painful but also put you at risk of severe infections and even amputation.  By addressing these needs early, a podiatrist can help by providing off-loading, debridement, sterilization, dressing and prescribing appropriate medications when necessary.

We aim to reduce the impact that diabetes has on patients livelihood by providing early intervention and reducing complications with proven effective diabetic foot treatment programs.  If you are suffering from diabetic foot problems, contact us to learn how we can help.

Pediatric Foot Care

An infant’s foot is not fully formed until early childhood an is comprised of flexible bones and joints that slowly develop proper bone structure.  Ideally, your child does not have any foot problems at birth, avoids infections while learning to walk and has an arch in each foot that forms correctly over the first few years.  When that is not the case, podiatrists are prepared to help fix those problems and ensure that your little one is ready to take their first steps in comfort.

Northstate has experience treating structural developmental issues, infections and foot defects that occur at birth such as clubfoot or inward gait.  By providing care of foot or ankle defects in the early years, possible surgical intervention can be avoided.  Resolving these issues early helps your child’s foot to follow an expected development timeline.

A common issue is flexible Flatfoot in children.  It commonly persists into 4 or 5 years old at which point the arch should be expected to form.  Utilizing orthotics or physical therapy to treat flexible flatfoot can help development progress.  In cases when the foot structure forms and the arch does not rise, a podiatrist with experience with children’s feet should be consulted for further recommendations.  If you are looking to find great care for your child’s feet contact Northstate Foot and Ankle Specialists.

Sport Injuries

Athletes put their bodies under constant stress which is why so many competitors experience a foot or ankle injury in their career.  However, podiatrists can play just a big a part in resolving injuries that have occurred as they can in improving performance and preventing injuries from occurring in the first place.

The most common sports related foot and ankle injuries are repetitive motion injuries such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, heel spurs or ankle instability and traumatic injuries such as ligament tears, broken bones or sprained ankles.  Our team of podiatrists will gain an understanding of the specific injury and its severity, then they will create a treatment plan consisting of surgical and non-surgical treatments, physical therapy, biomechanical analysis and creating prescription sports orthotics.  This comprehensive approach means that we can both resolve the condition and prevent it from recurring, enabling you to get back on the field and to reach your peak performance.

This level of therapy isn’t just for injured athletes.  When you are trying to reach your training or performance goals, it’s important that your feet and ankle are properly supporting the movement of your entire body.  Alignment issues, poorly fitting shoes and inadequate support all take away from your performance and can lead to injury.  By studying how you are using your feet and applying customized solutions, a podiatrist can help to prevent those injuries from occurring, while helping you perform at a higher level.  If you are dealing with a sports foot injury or want to take your performance to the next level contact Northstate Foot and Ankle Specialists.
